Frequently asked questions

Everything you need for your visit at a glance.

Where is the Stauferfalknerei?

Right next to the historic Lorch Abbey, Klosterstraße 2, 73547 Lorch. Lorch lies in the Rems valley next to Schwäbisch Gmünd, between Stuttgart and Aalen (Baden-Württemberg, Germany).

Is the falconry a good day out with children?

Yes. The flight show suits all ages, and children are usually right in the middle of it. There are also dedicated children’s and family courses, children’s birthday parties and shows for school classes and nurseries. Lorch Abbey is right next door, so the show and a visit to the abbey make a good day out in the Rems valley.

How do I get there?

By car via the B 29 to Lorch: about 10 km from Schwäbisch Gmünd, 15 km from Schorndorf and 45 km from Stuttgart. There is parking at the falconry. By train, travel to Lorch (Rems valley line Stuttgart–Aalen); from the station it is about a 20-minute walk up to the abbey. Plan your route: Google Maps.

Can I visit outside of the flight show?

No. The falconry is only open during flight shows or as part of a booked course.

Are dogs allowed?

Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted during the flight shows. Thank you for your understanding.

Can I see the birds in their aviaries?

The aviaries are not open to visitors. If you would like to get closer to our birds, book an encounter or a course.

How much is admission to the flight show?

Adults €10, reduced €5, families €25. Times, dates and group prices are on the flight show page.

Can I buy gift vouchers?

Yes, value and course vouchers are available online to print at home. They are valid for the flight show, courses, experiences and sponsorships and can also be redeemed when booking online. Older paper vouchers without a code can only be redeemed at the till on site.

Can I touch the birds?

Not during the flight show. As a rule, however, selected members of the audience get to interact with one of the birds.

How long does the flight show last?

The birds of prey and owl shows last about one hour.

Which birds will I see?

Various falcons, buzzards, eagles and birds of the night such as eagle-owls and other owls. Because our birds’ welfare comes first, no two shows are exactly alike and the programme may change.

May I take photos and videos?

Yes, photos and videos of the birds for private use are allowed. Please stay in your seat and keep your distance – holding a camera right in a bird’s face stresses it. Please also respect the privacy of other guests.

Can I book a private flight show?

Yes, for example for company events, team outings, birthdays, children’s parties, family celebrations, weddings and more. Email us at info@stauferfalknerei.de or use our enquiry form. Payment is in cash on the day.

What age is the show suitable for?

All ages. Children enjoy it as much as adults do. Please remain seated during the show; you may leave at any time.

What happens in bad weather?

To protect our birds, shows and courses may be cancelled at short notice in rain or extreme heat. We usually announce this on this website at least 3 hours before the start.
